Task 3 - Thinking around a box - I have this idea for creative confidence, anxiety around sharing work - It's a story I want to try and visualize, a problem I want to solve - not just for myself but for the students I teach and my peers. This inability to want to share work - because we are insecure, it's not quite finished, we have self-doubt and compare ourselves. It is what we NEED to do as designers but often and always comes to a point of apprehension.
Still obsessed with silhouettes and shadows I was thinking I could use these to show generic no descript characters - they would serve as a visual where people might place themselves to help engage with my narrative. I was thinking of camera angles and had an idea for lots of black silhouetted people holding boxes  - which would represent their creativity.

I have tried numerous shadow photography sessions as seen in the last project with little success so I think I will simplify my concept - hoping to still use shadows to convey emotion and a sense of relationship with others....You know what I mean... a hand creeping in etc.
The Magic Box

My magic box of creativity directly comes from a reference that I have come across many many times... most recently on a podcast series with JJ ABRAHAMS (film director and founder of BAD ROBOT) but prior to that on ted talks and interviews.

The box is a metaphor for many things - Think of films and narratives - there is always a shoebox with hidden personal or importance. It is a package for the precious and personal artifacts we hold close to our hearts- a container. We all have a box at home containing something precious. JJ Abrahams talks about the idea of a key...something we need to unlock - The box of magic that is never opened but the illusion that it may hold all the answers. I found it fascinating that the box metaphor in his ted talk holds far less important to him than it does to others around him.
PHOTOGRAPHING THE BOX
INSPIRATION

I needed to narrow my ideas so if I had to choose one source of inspiration it is this image below and the series of work this artist does (MBOA.ART.). A combination of siloe=tte, collage, and creativity. These rudimental lines and strokes, shapes are what will escape from my box - they might vary and they might become more but I need to see how long and how technical it is.
Looking at the movement and stop-motion -  I am wanting to bring light out of darkness
Something that Marvel does extremely well. They always use the halo effect, the silhouette colour contrast to create focal point and emotion - they are masters of visually portraying hope.
The box needs to belong to someone so the composition needs to include hands holding the box (or have it embedded in a body but that might come later) or show possession in some way.
I give you a reference below (doctor strange) of an example of the light out of the dark end product. The creative confidence is the light in the dark - the magic within. The creativity will slide, crawl, seep, explode, etc out of the box and creep up over the face - until the owner can wear it proudly - is happy to show their colours.
I hire equipment from the QCA equipment store so that I can create more effective source images and sounds. (feedback on this process is that it is time-consuming and complicated  - I didn't even know where the AV store was....and registering contacting them through the QCA website was not clear or easy. I would recommend new students be walked through this step by step as part of orientation. It is not something you can decide on doing the day before..In saying this the staff in there are very helpful but getting to that point was not easy).
Sound will be a huge part of my task. I have recorded some already but it is not fantastic.

I added lots of sound layers and repeated them for things like blinking eyes and breathing

I was experimenting with sound to try and remove background noise in adobe audition. I wanted to create an echo effect to compliment the idea that I was inside the mind
