This week we formed teams around our HMW questions. I had tentatively formed a group with Jess and Somerset the week before as our HMW was quite similar. I was keen to work on someone else's topic because I felt like mine was diluted and problematic going forward.
Our team looked at 2 areas - Online learning with Chris's HMW which overlapped with myself and Somerset ( our brainstorm was on the whiteboard - we were all trying to solve the problem of memorable engagement in some way.
We also looked at my HMW question which also overlapped with Jess and Chris. We used the glass window which was heaps of fun but also problematic to photograph and document.
As a team (Somerset, Jess, Chris, Paloma) we decided to settle on team Xzibit (a play on the rapper/pimp my ride star) and go with my the digital exhibition topic. I am concerned that the HMW is a little generic. I started with What if screens replaced the canvas and I think this is a much more prominent, and valid problem to explore. I have emailed Carolyn to ask if we can slightly shift our focus to this area and look at digital exhibitions in galleries rather than digital exhibitions online.
I find it fascinating that there is a trend away from cinemas as we all prefer to stream the latest movies from our own homes..and evidence that the megaplex cinematic experience is a dwindling enterprise which has been advanced by covid. And then the flip side we are heading out in droves to see digital versions and projections of traditional art in the galleries.
Somerset noted that there is still not the same appreciation of seeing the real artwork in person -up close - just as you would see a real celebrity or singer on stage instead of in a movie or video clip... however he is taking about people who have been educated around the art forms, have an existing appreciation and would attend galleries regardless in their part or present. These new immersive projected visual art experinces drive new audiences that would otherwise have no preconceived idea about visual art culture and may have never attended a gallery - would they still value the traditional canvas and mediums?

Above is our brain storming. - we applied different methods  - thought as a 5 year old, created analogies, made our boss mad and in the end everything arrived at the same conclusion - Pixel Drone art
We have agreed to create a teams chat and group Miro board - this was a hectic week and so many people have not had a chance to contribute too much (including myself) but that is ok - we are all on track.
I have set up some simple areas for the team to populate so we can create a team organisational chart and regular catch up moving forward on Miro. It is handy to know everyones skill set so we can allocate tasks. I think we are going to all take a team leader role  - which is best I think...
Our main objective is to have something tangible at the end - jess has a projection art project, Somerset does animation and Chris and I are keen to do something future set.
Team Xzibit  - priority 1  -  choose a topic that is fun.
I did start to collect the associated stories around digital exhibitions as a base secondary research area. We will refine and define this week. I can't make it to class but will do my fair share and catch up with the team. I am happy for them to take the direction where they would like to go. I am looking forward to doing this task - it is going to be fun to collaborate with these team members. I feel lucky.
These are the HMW I am proposing to move the focus to gallery exhibits. Hopefully I'll know by today.
I like the HMWcreate value and memorable emotional connections to digital experiences -- because I think this looks at that area in the new audience where appreciation for the original work can not be presumed.
And on that note lets finish with the leading story this week - PIXEL DRONE ART
