This week we had to narrow our focus and attempt to prototype our ideas. I found this a really interesting activity from a creative point of view. It did get me thinking differently and it was extremely clear that collaboration was key to this task. I had some ideas but other had different directions and therefore we were able to expand our pathways into prototyping.
I do feel like we always run out of time to do these activities in class. Probably because I always have to go on time but as it is a group assignment it is the best place and time to work on it... and I felt like we rushed through some of our crafting. It was a lot fun.
One of our ideas is about transformative artwork - showing the backstory - unveiling the process, think of a time-lapse of a painting or drawing being done..... So to prototype this we removed the digital aspect and thought about how it would work as static art - we thought about the person changing location rather than the artwork changing.....and we attempted to try role play - me in the car with my computer as the steering wheel. Our artwork was on billboards that progressively unveiled the process. It was an attempt at design thinking and changing the way we looked at the problem.
Prototyping time-lapse - we came up with the idea that the old school way was much like a flip book - the story and movement unveils itself. Jess did a great job with the picture. I loved how this flip book idea gave us a springboard for other ways of showing movement.

I think our brains left us because we thought that black card would show the light up better but of course it didn't which we all immediately realised.

This was the perceptual map (this what I know it as - from industry) that we worked from to create our prototyping ideas.
Some of the ideas overlap but all involve projection. It will be interesting to discuss if this is a service or a product that evolves as the solution. I also found it interesting that google maps walk thorugh gallery is a collectively voted low experience. It is good but not new - and no longer exciting to all of us and I wonder if this is the same with our audience. I will need to investigate. We took the three in the top right to prototype in class.
I wanted to give our team a little structure and some deadlines this week. We have agreed we do not have a team captain but as I think we are all getting very time poor I wanted to look at what was coming next.
It was evident in the class last week that our HMW can be misinterpreted and when Carolyn asked Chris to read ours out loud to the class it immediately became clear that it could be interpreted in a completely different way.
"How do we make viewing art....
if the pause happens here
.....remotely more interesting"
makes it sound like the art is boring.

It was clear we needed to reword our HMW? And it was early on mothers day when I started to distill the prototyping activities onto the micro board -  I realised we had two different problems and we needed to refine our direction.
Are we solving the problem of accessing the art in the exhibition away from the physical gallery? or
Are we solving the problem of making digital art (reproductions or original) more engaging?

I have done a little more research around accessibility. There seem to be quite a few NFP organisations and businesses that rely on grants and funding to tour exhibitions. These companies are a service and require staff to commute or attend location to organise like an an event. I am thinking that the idea of accessibility might be pushed further if we explore this area of event management as our point of difference. Can the audience be the event manager? How can quality, authorship and consistency of product and experience be maintained if we allow the user to set up their own experience (community or online).
I think I might propose prototyping this concept of audience drives the outcome today as Role Play - It would also be great to touch on as primary research if I can get spontaneous results.
